Born and raised in Florida, Chuck's musical roots run as deep as the palm trees. At the age of 10, the child prodigy was exploited by an organ teacher who led him down a path of corruption... 60's pop classics. "He made me play Alley Cat... Moon River... Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head," explains Chuck. "I knew in my heart there was better music out there but I had yet to hear it." Then, in the early seventies, one musical force changed his life: the instrumentals of K-Tel. Suddenly B.J. Thomas and the Captain and Tennille were out. Close Encounters and Star Wars were in. Instrumental music would never be the same.
By the late 70s, Chuck co-founded Banshee at the University of Florida. The
band performed progressive rock hits and achieved a measure of local success.
It was here that Chuck first saw the Dixie Dregs in concert, an event that would
forever change the way he looked at his keyboard. "I realized that the
black things weren't just there to separate the white keys." Armed with
his new musical vocabulary, Chuck began to hone his chops for the opportunity
that would come more than a decade later: Aftershock.
